Preparing Local Activists for Community Engagement Training to be held in Newport

The Diversity Coalition of Lincoln County is proud to present PLACE (Preparing Local Activists for Community Engagement) at Oregon Coast Community College

May 20th, 9am to 4:30pm

For everyone who said “OK what’s next — how can I make a difference?” following the Women’s March or the March for Science, this conference is for you!

The PLACE Conference will include presentations and workshops led by local activists working for social, political, and environmental justice. Kicking off the day will be a panel discussion representing vulnerable communities in Lincoln County: Native Americans, Latinos, LGBTQ, Transgender, Houselessness, Immigration, and Senior Citizens. The panel will be moderated by Franki Trujillo-Dalbey, a second generation Latina, retired college professor, and diversity trainer.

Registration is $25, or $10 for students, with full stipends available, and includes:

  • Full day conference (one large panel discussion, plus your choice of several work shops and panels on different topics (see the schedule for details)
  • An optional two hour intersectionality workshop led by Franki Trujillo-Dalbey
  • A Full Lunch from Mo’s Chowder
  • Live music by Barbara Lee Turrill during the lunch break
  • Coffee and snacks throughout the day
  • Information tables by a large variety of Lincoln County organizations so you can learn more about what’s going on in your community and how to help.
